LAY DOWN YOUR BURDENS, LET THE WORLD GENTLY FADE

This handmade blanket is intended to be taken off the wall and worn. On the back side of the quilt, there are conductive strings that have been embroidered into the piece; these strings connect to a conductive touch board preloaded with sounds from nature. I recorded these sounds in my favourite places in nature: bees in my mother's garden, the babbling stream where my grandad lived, and birds in the park outside my house. Each cluster of threads triggers a different sound. When the body moves under the blanket, a montage of nature plays.
The blanket is intended to act as a hug from nature.
The design was printed using the cyanotype method, as I wanted the sun to collaborate with me on the piece. The body is my own, intended to look as though an anonymous body is resting comfortably in a sea of blue.
