MONOPRINTS
2023
Ink on notebook paper
These monoprints are a visual diary, a documentation of a tumultuous time in my life. There was the death of a loved one, my mother's cancer diagnosis and being in a long-distance relationship with my partner living in a different country. I was frustrated, alone, confused and scared.
My way of understanding and dealing with these emotions was to try to visualise them through monoprints. I found the medium to suit the emotions well, as each print can never be exactly replicated, and the unpredictability of the ink creates blurry and often illegible prints. This reflected my psyche at the time.
Creating the prints was cathartic to me. I was able to understand how I felt by what I produced each day. I continued printing until I had filled two walls in the studio, amounting to 300 unique prints.
I now use these prints to understand how I felt during this time.
