Here Lies My Grandfather

2026

Ceramic and scent installation

Here lies my grandfather.
Captured in scent stored in stone.
Marks of him, home and Ireland dance on the surface of the vessel, created from wool, hay, turf, clothing and herbs.
Inside is the memory of him I distilled into a perfume.
He’ll exist forever in stone while his scent silently slips away.

Hand-thrown ceramic stone wear saggar fired using personal belongings and items relating to my grandfather, inside is the scent of him I distilled into a perfume.

Through this project, I explored the juxtaposition between permanence and impermanence in relation to scent, stone, memory and grief.
